Garden incinerators are becoming more and more popular in recent years. It used to be that they were purely used at allotments, or very large properties with considerable gardens. However this really isn’t the case anymore and there are a number of reasons why…
What Does A Garden Incinerator Do?
Basically, the purpose of a garden incinerator is to burn garden, allotment, or any other “green” waste. It does this so efficiently because of the high temperatures that it is able to work at. This high temperature means that they will also be able to cope burning wet materials as well as dry (once they have got up to a certain temperature) so you are not going to have to store your debris before it is destroyed.
So Why Do I Need A Garden Incinerator?
There are a few reasons why garden incinerators are being used more and more, we have considered these below to give you a bit of an idea….
- Council Waste Disposal – The bins that we have available to use from the council are getting smaller and smaller (and also councils are getting more strict about what they can take in each bin and when it will be taken etc). This means that many homes (mine included) will have a build-up of waste from their gardens that could just as easily be removed by it being burned.
- Tip Trips – Another option for large amounts of garden debris is a trip (or two, or three!) to the tip. This takes a considerable amount of time and effort – not to mention fuel -, and let’s not even get started on the state that your car will be in afterwards! By reducing your debris right down by burning it, you will greatly reduce the time and effort that needs to go into your disposal of the ash afterwards!
- Sustainability – Gone are the days when people didn’t care about their waste or their own home sustainability! Many more people now care about their environment, the way in which they are disposing of their waste and the effect that it has going forwards. But, that doesn’t mean that people have the time or space to build a compost heap and wait for years and years for garden waste to dispose of its own accord – a garden incinerator is a perfect compromise!
Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any laws against having a garden incinerator?
No! You are perfectly within your right to have a garden incinerator no matter how small your garden. You just need to make sure that you are not causing a “nuisance” to any neighbours or surrounding properties as this could then leave you in breach of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
Can I use my garden incinerator for food waste?
We would not recommend putting food waste in your garden incinerator. This could release toxins into the air and would be considered a health and safety hazard that could harm people’s health! This would then definitely leave you in breach of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 (among others!).
